Never Settle AGAIN... Have your cake and eat it too!
I've always hated the expression 'you can't have your cake and eat it too'. Quite frankly, that's rediculous! What else are you supposed to do with cake... put it on a shelf and admire it? Excuse me, but that's insane! When I got into doing bodywork, I saw there was a clear line drawn between two extremes... on one side you have a feel-good "spa", pampering, luxurious treat; and on the other side "medical massage"... which often feels sterile, and is definitely NOT about feeling good... sure, the results are amazing, but you feel like you're going through a torture camp to get there! The funny thing is, therapists on both sides of the coin tend to be a little snooty and look down their noses at the other side. But the truth is, you don't have to decide.
Don't sacrifice the experience for the therapy!
A treat or a treatment... why choose? There's no reason you have to sacrifice the experience for the results. Have it ALL!!! I have to admit, I'm not someone who's good at choosing. I've often said "I want it all, and I want it now." So trust me, I understand. Thinking you can have it all isn't greedy, it's just an option most people are just too afraid to ask for, or don't think they deserve, but trust me, you do. Have an amazing, pampering experience AND get lasting therapeutic benefit.
The Experience
The minute you walk through the doors of our building, beautiful aromas wafting through the air invite you to explore further... as you walk down the stairs and through the door, you find yourself instantly enveloped in an oasis of calm... sanctuary. You'll find as we sit and talk during your consultation that this isn't some medical professional know-it-all barking orders at you; nor are you dealing with a barely competent order taker either. You find that you suddenly have a partner in your self care. Someone to help guide you, coach you and help you learn... all the while respecting your goals, your wishes, your boundaries. You have time... at your first appointment I allow a full half hour to meet with you before your session begins. You get your questions answered. You understand what to expect. You feel listened to.
The Room
Then you're guided to the treatment room... as you enter, you are instantly transported to a tropical Asian paradise... 'Am I on vacation?', you wonder, 'I don't remember boarding any plane.' Gentle music fills the air (which by the way, you are free to request something different if you don't like my selection). As you look around the room, you see that it's been carefully prepared to suit your every need... a fluffy robe in case you need to get up to go to the bathroom during your session, a comfortable chair to sit in while you take off your shoes, a hanger to hang your clothes on... even a vanity in the corner in case you need to retouch your make-up or hair after your session.
The table is warmed to take the chill off and allow you to relax comfortably, the lights dimmed slightly, the table well padded, so that you feel every muscle and joint sinking as if into a cloud. Even the blanket is soft and fluffy.
You don't feel rushed... it was explained to you before you entered the room that you'd be given about five minutes to get on the table and begin to decompress... this isn't an assembly line after all.
The Session
As your session begins, your individual session is tailored to your needs... are you getting all-over care, or is more focused work necessary today? Each session is customized and never exactly the same. Often the session will begin with warm stones being placed under your back... which feels nothing like any rock you've felt before... it's like they're literally melting into the muscles of your back, loosening everything they touch. I often use heated stones throughout my work, both for their amazing therapeutic benefits, and just because they feel good... imagine sliding into a hot tub, and having your sore muscles massaged all at the same time! They help minimize the pain of a deep-tissue session. The increased circulation they bring helps ease sports-fatigued muscles. (In fact, you can expect recovery time to dive to almost nill).
In addition, essential oils: pure, powerful, concentrated plant extracts; are added not only to enhance the full-sensory experience, but also because they have incredible health benefits. Again, your session is completely customized to your needs and wants... do you have a headache, stuffy nose, achy muscles, digestion problems, fatigue, stress or need an immune boost? Essential oils are chosen to address your specific needs and preferences.
During the session, I communicate with you to see how the pressure is and make sure you're comfortable... but you won't have to listen to my life story... you won't have to hear how my day's going so far... this is all about you.
Emergence
When you emerge from your session, you feel lighter, as though a huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders. The challenges in your life seem a little smaller, your courage a little greater. You won't even be bothered if someone cuts you off in traffic on your way home. Because now you realize the world really is an okay place. Maybe it's not so unrealistic to think you could be truly, really, blissfully happy... right now, in this life... maybe you can have your cake and eat it too!
"The space is wonderful, you feel as if you are enveloped in warmth, calmness, quiet-creating; it is a place of comfort. I love the essential oils. I personally feel they enhance the entire experience. Rachel is a delight - personable, professional & knowledgeable. I have recommended her to many of my friends with complete confidence that she will help them relax & feel better - more energy & better health." -Evelyn Cullman, Arvada

"When I first started seeing Rachel, I had severe lower back pain which was instantly relieved after the first visit. It returned a couple more times but, after a couple more sessions, I've been pain free. It seems like Rachel is constantly learning & growing as a therapist. She's also become very skilled with the use of essential oils." -Jaquelyn Gray, Denver
Please know that while people do sometimes experience instantrelief from things that have plagued them for years, most often it takes repeated sessions. It's like everything else. For example, what would happen if you:
Went to physical therapy for an ankle injury... once every 30 days Used the weight machines to build muscle... once every few weeks Went for a walk to lose weight... twice a month
Would you see improvement? Heck no! The same is true for somatic therapy. Random, once in a while sessions are not going to give you the benefits you could get. However, know that I will provide you with the tools to get further benefit at home, between treatments... because I also get that you have a life, and do have other things to do.
"My experience at Body Sanctuary has proven consistently beneficial & relaxing. Rachel personalizes each session by asking if any body area requires additional attention. Often she suggests techniques to practice at home to help eliminate muscle stress between sessions. Rachel is knowledgeable, professional & cheerful, which keeps me returning to Body Sanctuary." -Patricia Lilliston, Denver

Wait a minute, what the heck is a 'Somatic Specialist'?
You'll notice I don't refer to myself as a massage therapist, even though I do many of the same things a massage therapist does. Why is that? There's a couple of reasons... One: as I said before, there tends to be two distinct schools of massage therapy (and bodywork in general), and whichever one you may have more experience with is probably how you've come to define massage therapy from that point on... but you can expect something different when you come to me, and I want to be clear about that from the start. Two: when people think of massage, they think of having their bodies treated... but the truth is, you're much more than a collection of muscles, fascia, and trigger points. You are a whole, complete being, and I aim to affect body, mind and spirit. This is more than just bodywork... it's soulwork. My goal is that through the process of working together, I can help you achieve breakthroughs not only in your body... but in your whole being. The difference I've experienced just in my life since I started getting regular treatments is amazing! I'm so much more in touch with my self, my emotions; and that deep inner voice, that inner knowing, as a result of this work... and I hope to help you experience the same freedom. This is about so much more than just freedom of movement or freedom from pain. I hope not only to loosen tight muscles and restore mobility to joints, I hope to empower you with an inner freedom; a remembering of your true self. I hope to help you uncover your hidden gifts by unwrapping the layers that cover them up. I hope to help you remember the real you.
Is this a spiritual thing?
The people who know me well know that I am a very spiritual person. That being said, I'm not doctrinal at all. This is not about religion. I don't force my beliefs or opinions down anyone's throat. I've had that done to me and I don't appreciate it any more than you do. I believe spirituality is a very personal thing, between you and your higher power. But how can you experience the wonder that we as humans are, the beautiful beings we are, without literally experiencing divinity? It's not about ideas or concepts... it's about the experience. It's about an awakening to your true nature.
A personal note...
I look forward to working with you. It all starts with your somatic assessment, where you can share with me the questions, concerns, and goals you may have, and we will begin to develop a plan together to give you the results you desire.
